Abstract:

In this thesis we describe the Boltzmannian quantum framework as a funda- mental framework for quantum statistical mechanics of closed macroscopic systems. We state novel proposals for the second law of thermodynamics, verifying it for simple random Hamiltonians and justify the use of thermodynamic ensembles, in particular explaining foundations of the grand-canonical ensemble.
